Breckenridge versus Breckinridge?
The proper spelling is Breckenridge, Colorado. The ski resort town of Breckenridge Colorado was originally named BreckInridge in honor of then Vice President John C. Breckinridge, in hopes he would bestow a post office to the town. Vice Pres. Breckinridge was flattered and in 1860 a post office was granted. After Breckinridge joined the Confederate Army during the civil war, the town of Breckinridge, a Union-allied Colorado Territory, changed the spelling of its name to the current day Breckenridge.
